SAMANTHA MCCUBBIN

Contemporary Scottish Artist

About

Samantha was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1988. A creative person from a young age, she discovered her love of painting during her final year of studying Art and Design at The University of Leeds. Since graduating she has continued to paint and develop her own unique style.

Samantha’s practice is dependent on the integration of artistic elements; colour, texture, line and shape. Painting for her is about experimentation and ‘happy accidents’. She is not so concerned with the exact representation of an image but rather how the paint reacts on the canvas and the effect produced. The paint almost becomes the ‘theme’ itself. The main themes she explores are floral, landscape and abstract. Her work requires a real physical engagement to produce which allows her to express her painterly qualities. She works from original photographs and still lifes but mainly enjoys painting from her imagination. She often begins by creating spontaneous marks and from these marks builds up the paint on the canvas with the use of gestural and instinctive brush strokes.

Samantha currently paints from her studio in Glasgow’s East End. She has hosted painting workshops at The Glasgow Art Club and has 3 online courses available on her website. If you are interested in any one to one classes at her studio, please email her for more information. She will keep you posted on any upcoming workshops or classes.
